About Pine + Fir
We’re a couple that enjoys bringing spaces to life.
Kyla Diffenderfer
As a native of the Pacific Northwest, I’ve always been surrounded by some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Nature is my muse, and my deep love for trees inspired the name Pine + Fir Design Company.
My aesthetic sensibilities trace back to my heritage, being the daughter of a second-generation Japanese gardener. From a young age, I worked in the family business, mastering the art of Pacific Northwest-style landscape design.
When I wasn’t creating outdoor spaces, I was busy designing and remodeling our family’s homes, which eventually led to my full-time career as an interior designer. I have a particular passion for commercial design for the way it can impact a lot of people, yet residential projects are equally important to me, as they reflect the spaces we live in and call home.
Beyond my professional life, I stay busy as a mother of five adopted children, a bonus daughter, and grandmother to Tobi. ❤️
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling to charming little towns where I get inspired discovering new artists, and savoring the culinary creations of my talented husband.
Everything I have overcome, achieved and cherish in my life, I owe to God.
Ben Diffenderfer
As the eldest in a large family that moved frequently, I grew up in Minnesota, Texas, Florida and Tennessee. These diverse surroundings instilled in me a deep appreciation for different places and people.
My professional journey began as a graphic designer at The Seattle Times, where I honed my skills and later transitioned into roles at advertising agencies. Over the years, my passion shifted towards designing processes and systems, leading me to pursue project, program, and product management roles.
Together with Kyla, we felt a strong calling to make a difference in the lives of others, which inspired us to adopt five wonderful children.
In my personal time, I enjoy cooking (particularly exploring the art of smoking food), traveling, and unwinding with video games after the kids are in bed.
